Things Freshmen and Students should avoid

Being a freshman is the most exciting thing; your in tertiary!!! But sometimes its not!

It's like a scavenger hunt; despite the fun; obstacles are present to prohibit you from archiving goals.

But, the same presence makes the whole thing fun and definitely worth being part of. Assuming you like challenges, of which you should.

There are multiple ways of getting through tertiary life! I'm a University graduate myself, so here is my take.

1. Choosing friends.

By the way, by friends I mean; neighbors, classmates and people whom you'll spend most of your time with.

Friends play a bigger role since they'll be there all your academic years. When your sick or need someone to talk to for instance.

If you have authority, never choose bad friends or stick with those who'll manifest their bad intentions along the way (I view bad as anyone or anything that hinders you from archiving goals).

Might be helpful to have friends whom you do different activities with. Some for academic use and others for entertainment purposes.

2. Timing
Keeping a balance between academic and personal life is, tough.

Knowing when it's time to play and when to focus can be tricky. Practice and more practice makes perfect here. Some people uses time tables and alarms to avoid unnecessary distractions.

Friends plays a bigger role here; they'll help you catch up on lessons missed and provide guidance on the daily. Always be a good friend too and do the same too.

The principle is knowing when to go for drinks, when to visit the library, and when to go for discussions.

3. Discussion groups

Our last point is Forming healthy discussion groups

Discussion groups should be of not more than four people, and I don't recommend two. So three or four.

Not all subjects/courses/modules require discussions and even if they do; they don't need the same attention. Mastering that is everything.

Get a good team and always volunteer unless someone has. If group members misbehave, discipline them but if they persist, leave. Remember, your doing this for yourself and not anyone else
